· Photo ID (state issued ID, military ID or passport)

· Birth Certificate (with county stamp/seal: if copied stamp/seal must be visible)

· Social Security Card

· Deed/Renters Lease

· Home owners insurance card or statement

· For weatherization grants: An estimate from a legitimate contractor and/or health department analysis if you are seeking a grant because your home tested positive for toxins - Example: LEAD detected in the paint

· Bank Statement (for proof of identity & for grants awarded by ACH Wire Transfer)

· Proof of income (for grants specifically for low income, if no income explain why and have it notarized: approval/denial notices of unemployment benefits and/or SSI are also considered proof)


Every adult residing in the home of the applicant may also be required to send the above mentioned documents that apply to them depending on the granting agency: once you gather the above mentioned documents and have on hand the process will go by much faster.


Make sure when filling out the applications that your handwriting is clear, precise and honest. Keep a log book of what grants you applied for and the contact information for each, this will allow for swift follow up for the pending approval status of your applications. Once you receive your grant, make sure to keep all receipts (some grant issuing agencies require proof that your grant money was spent on what will be allowed to purchase and they may give you a date to send copies of the receipts, if you fail to send the copies you will be subject to the requirement of paying back the grant money). Example: If you receive a $50,000.00 grant for new windows & doors and you choose to purchase what will be needed from several stores and all the receipts add up to $53,000.00 you may qualify for additional funding for the other $3,000.00 (provided that you follow instructions by going to the merchants they approve).
